No. Universities/colleges are not even required to be nationally accredited, though it is to their advantage if they are. Becoming nationally accredited is kind of like a type of standards for academic institutions. Theoretically, it is a way of demonstrating that a given institution offers quality education, learning tools/methods, etc.
